How do I start growing mushrooms at home?

Start with a ready-to-fruit kit or a bag of colonised grain spawn, then move to your own grain and substrate once you are comfortable. The basic path is culture to grain spawn to bulk substrate to fruiting. Oyster mushrooms are the usual first choice because they grow fast and forgive mistakes. You need clean hands, 70% isopropyl alcohol, a warm spot around 20 to 24°C, and a way to hold high humidity while the mushrooms form.
