Why did my mushroom pins abort or dry up?

Aborted or shrivelled pins usually come from low humidity, a sudden dry draught, or too little fresh air at the wrong moment. Keep humidity around 90% during pinning, mist the air rather than the pins, and increase air exchange gently rather than with harsh blasts. A stable environment during the first few days of pinning makes the biggest difference.
