Do I need a laminar flow hood?

Not for home-scale growing. A flow hood pushes filtered air across your work so contamination is very low, which is valuable for heavy agar work or a small business, but it is expensive and needs a proper HEPA filter and blower. Most hobby growers do fine with a still air box and good habits. Consider a flow hood only when contamination during scale-up is holding you back.
