How long does a mushroom culture last and how do I store it?
Stored in a fridge at about 2 to 4°C, agar plates and liquid cultures stay usable for several months, and often longer. For the best vigour, use liquid culture within a few months and refresh agar strains with a transfer now and then. Long term, strains can be kept on grain masters or preserved by freezing on agar with a cryoprotectant. Keep everything sealed and away from light.
